Parish Activation Days

Saturday 20 January 2024 (Ashford): https://aecsouthwark.churchsuite.com/events/xgqscwqs

The point of parish activity, certainly in the areas of Evangelisation, Catechesis and Formation, is to bring people to intimacy and communion with Jesus Christ. Whatever we do, this is our goal.

As no parish is the same, it is important that each parish formulates its own plan by reflecting and considering the good work already undertaken whilst also looking to see the areas where growth is possible.

These days are being offered to you to kickstart your process.

Catechesis
We desire to be a parish in which everyone’s personal relationship with Jesus Christ is established, confirmed and strengthened. We desire to be a people who, having been bound to Christ and to each other in the Church, place the call of the Lord to make new disciples at the very centre of our catechetical life. We desire to be a parish in which every disciple is a personal witness to the Gospel.

Evangelisation
Our parish aspires to be a place that people consider to be their home. Home, a place of healing; a place of rest and nourishment; a place where good news is shared freely. We aim to encourage transformation and be witnesses to the Lord we know to be alive. As a witnessing community, we will seek conversion of head and heart in all who cross the threshold to our parish home and to those beyond its visible bounds.

Formation
As, together, we seek to deepen our life of prayer and worship, our parish also looks to deepen our understanding of God’s Holy Word and the teachings of the Church. Each member of the community will have an opportunity to explore the riches of the faith, according to their ability and age in the course of the year. We will be a community where the Mystery of our Faith is discovered, is celebrated, so that it may be shared with those around us.

There will be places for 6 parishes to join.
We are suggesting that you come as a group between 3-10 people. Please detail how many people will be joining.

*Snacks and refreshments will be provided but please bring your own lunch

Schedule:
10:30am – Arrivals
11:00am – Session 1 – Vision
12:30pm – Lunch
1:30pm – Session 2 – Reality
2:30pm – Session 3 – Plan

Jesus Christ: Past, Present and Future

In this year-long theology programme we take a sustained look at Jesus, and what Christians believe about him. Jesus belongs to a particular place and time in history. So how did the first century Palestinian carpenter known as ‘Jesus of Nazareth’ become the ‘Jesus Christ’ of Christianity, the ‘eternally begotten Son of the Father’, the ‘Word made Flesh’? What does it mean to claim that Jesus—a human—was God? What sense can we make of the idea that the crucifixion—a horrifying form of public execution—was part of God’s plan for Jesus, and for all of humanity? How can it be that something so obviously bad could also become the source of ‘good news’? And how should Christians understand the thought that the Church—with all its conflicts, flaws and failings—is the ‘body’ of Christ? We will examine these and other issues, looking at the past, present and future of Jesus Christ.

Participants will gain a better understanding of some of the most important Christian ideas, and emerge with a deeper, richer understanding of their own tradition.

Saturday, 14 October 10:00am – 4:00pm
Saturday, 25 November 10:00am – 4:00pm
